Just a quick update to confirm that, as stated in my last post, all members that were labelled as "inactive" have now been deleted from the ring. If your blog was one of these you will need to re-sign-up to the ring in order for your blog to be part of the ring again.

Updates galore!

Updates, updates, updates! Always better in list form, so here goes...

First of all, I'm thrilled to say that our lovely UK Etsy Sellers Who Blog (UKESWB for short!) blog ring has now reached a grand total of 140 members! Absolutely fantastic, I'm sure you'll agree. Thank you to each and every one of you. Here's to the next 140!
As some of you will be aware (especially newer members), Ringsurf (the site that hosts and runs our blog ring) underwent something of a makeover recently. As a result there have been a few hiccups with membership, and user account management, but I'm hoping that the worst of it is now over. If anyone is running into trouble please don't hesitate to get in touch and I will do my very best to help out.
I've been doing some maintenance on the ring and have a couple of things I want everyone to be aware of...

First of all, the existing graphic for the ring will be deleted at the end of this month (30th June 2008). Fear not, however, as I have created some brand spanking new ones that are far prettier. If you don't currently have the graphic option on your ring code and would like to change that, simply log into your Ringsurf account (link opens in a new window) to edit your settings.

Secondly, there are, a number of members of the ring who have removed the ring code from their blogs for whatever reason. These members are currently labeled as inactive.In order to keep the ring flowing properly I will be deleting all inactive members at the end of this month (30th June 2008). If your account is currently inactive you have until the end of the month to re-add the code into your blog. If your account is still inactive at the end of the month it will be deleted from the ring and you will have to rejoin if you wish your blog to be a member again.

I received an e-mail from a PhD student of Media Studies at the University of Texas recently regarding our lovely blog ring. He is working on a project about how bloggers communicate with each other in webrings and how close they can become. He's written a survey and has asked that I mention it here for other UKESWB members to have the opportunity to take part. The survey takes no more than 15 minutes to finish and there is an added bonus of a prize! If you provide your e-mail address when you take the survey you will be entered into a random prize draw for the chance to win one of two $50 gift cards. I'm a sucker for such things having conducted not one but two similar projects for my degrees, so I will be taking part. You can find the survey here (link opens in a new window). Finally, I will be sending this update via e-mail to all members of the blog ring simply because I want everyone to be aware of the changes I will be making at the end of the month and I'm sure people are far more likely to check their own e-mail than this here blog on a regular basis. Fear not, this will not be the start of oodles of messages from me about the ring!

Just eight until we reach triple figures, how exciting!

Another Friendly Reminder

Another friendly reminder, kids:

Please, please, please remember that when you sign up to the ring to put your BLOG'S url into the box that says "site url".

I've noticed quite a number of applications coming in with Etsy shop addresses lately and the code simply will not work with your Etsy url.

Applications submitted with anything other than a blog site url will be removed from the queue and will have to be resubmitted with the correct (blog) url.

When you sign up to the ring, please remember to add the code to your blog immediately. Your blog will not and cannot be approved without the code in place.

Blogs that are submitted to the ring but do not contain the code will be deleted from the list and will need to be resubmitted.

How to add your blog to the UK Etsy Sellers Who Blog blog ring:

Please read the Ring Rules.
Click on the button in the side bar that says "Join Ring".
Follow the instructions to add your blog to the ring.
Once you have joined the ring you will see a confirmation screen with the html code for the blog ring (you will also receive an e-mail from RingSurf with the ring code). Copy this code and paste it into your blog - sidebar placement works best. Do NOT place the code into a blog post. If you are a Live Journal user, enter the code into your user profile page.
Sit back and wait for your blog to be approved. Please note that this can take up to a week.

Blog Ring Rules

The Rules:

You MUST be a UK Etsy seller. (If you are a non-UK Etsy seller, why not visit the Etsy Sellers Who Blog v2 ring)
You need to have a blog that will support the ring code. (Please note that currently MySpace blogs will not support the ring surf code)
You must have an EASY TO FIND link to your Etsy shop on your blog.
When signing up to the ring, please ensure that you give your Etsy Shop's BLOG url when asked for your site url - entering the url for your Etsy shop will not work for the ring. Applications submitted with Etsy shop urls will be deleted from the queue and will have to be resubmitted with the appropriate BLOG site url.
Once you have signed up, you will receive the code for the ring. One you have received this code, please insert it into your blog immediately. Your blog will not be approved until the code is there.
Please ensure that you place the ring code in an easy to find place in your blog’s template. Side bar placement works best for this. Your application will not be approved if you insert the code into a blog post. (Live Journal users should insert the code into their profile pages)
Please be aware that inserting the code into your blog does not immediately activate it - you must be approved first. This process can take up to a week, please be patient.
